2018 Mazda CX-5 Trim Updates

When it came time for 2018 Mazda CX-5 upgrades everything got hit…in the best possible way. From the entry level Mazda CX-5 Sport to the top of the line CX-5 Grand Touring, all CX-5 trims got a little something extra this model year.

To begin, let’s go over what now comes standard across all trim levels:

  • Cylinder-Deactivation Technology (Wondering what that means? See below.)
  • LED Headlights and Tail Lights
  • Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel and Leather-Wrapped Shift Knob
  • Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G engine (187 hp, 186-lb torque)
  • SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-speed Automatic Transmission with Manual-Shift Mode and Sport Mode

Pretty good start. Now for the specific trim upgrades.

The entry-level CX-5 Sport comes with an available Sport i-ACTIVSENSE package, which offers Sport buyers a bunch of safe driving technologies, including:

  • High Beam Control
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Lane-Keep Assist
  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control
  • Smart Brake Support
  • Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers
  • Automatic On/Off Headlights

Moving up a notch we arrive at the mid-level CX-5 Touring trim, which now comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels as well as the full suite of i-ACTIVSENSE safety features, and these additional features:

  • Leatherette-Upholstered Seats
  • Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry
  • Heated Front Seats
  • 6-Way Power Adjustable Driver’s Seat
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control
  • Rear Air Condition Vents
  • 2 Rear USB Ports

The CX-5 Touring trim also offers an available Touring Preferred Package which includes such features as:

  • BOSE 10-Speaker Audio Sound System with Centerpoint 2 and AudioPilot 2
  • Navigation
  • Power Glass Moonroof
  • Power Liftgate

And at the top of the line sits the CX-5 Grand Touring trim, which got a little boost of luxury. New features include:

  • 2-Position Memory Driver’s Seat
  • 6-Way Power Adjustable Passenger Seat
  • Leather-Trimmed Seats
  • LED Fog Lights
  • Adaptive Front-Lighting System
  • SiriusXM® Satellite Radio with 4-Month Trial Subscription

Car shoppers interested in the Grand Touring Trim also have the option to purchase the Grand Touring Premium Package which includes:

  • Windshield-Projected Active Driving Display Head-Up Unit with Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • Heated Second-Row Outboard Seats
  • Windshield Wiper De-Icer

And just what is cylinder-deactivation technology? In short it provides better fuel economy. Cylinder-deactivation technology improves fuel economy by shutting down two of the four cylinders when operating at cruising speeds. For example, when driving at a constant speed of about 25mph cylinder-deactivation cuts consumption by about 20% and when driving at a constant speed of about 50mph consumption is cut by about 5%. Low fuel consumption means fewer stops at the pump and that of course translates to savings for you.

P.S. Just in case you need one more reason, the Mazda CX-5 earned the IIHS “Top Safety Pick” or “Top Safety Pick+” for the fifth-consecutive year when equipped with proper headlights and specific technologies. It’s a pretty great vehicle, just saying…
