Ken Harvey’s Dublin Mazda is joining forces with Be the Match to help save a 12-year-old boy.
Deshaine “DJ” McCowan is a seventh grader at Pine Valley Middle School in San Ramon who was born with sickle cell disease. As a result of his condition, he experiences every day in chronic pain—it’s there when he wakes up, throughout the day, and when he goes to bed. The disease could take his life — but there is hope.
Be the Donor DJ Needs
If DJ can find a marrow donor, he’ll be one step closer to curing his sickle cell disease and living a full, happy life. We’ll be holding a Be the Match event at Ken Harvey’s Dublin Mazda to help find a donor for this courageous young man.
- When: Saturday, June 20, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Where: Ken Harvey’s Dublin Mazda, 6363 Scarlett Court
What Does It Take to Be a Donor?
To be a potential marrow donor, you must be between the age of 18 and 44, in good health, and be willing to help save a life. All it takes to find out if you’re a suitable donor is a quick, painless cheek swab. It’s our hope that we can find a suitable donor to help save DJ and help add to the Bone Marrow Registry.
How Else Can I Help?
While the best way to help is to become a marrow donor, you can also make a financial contribution to help save DJ.
We hope our event is a big success — but for that to happen, we need you to show up! Visit us tomorrow to help DJ live a full, happy life!
