Mazda did it. After nearly ten years of promising a diesel-powered engine to the American market, the 2019 CX-5 Signature Diesel is in the United States. And it will be at Dublin Mazda very, very soon.
So, why did it take nearly ten years? And what’s all the hype about? Put simply, it’s all about the driving experience. The twin-turbo diesel engine offers premium performance for one of Mazda’s most popular crossovers. That means smoother power delivery and more effortless acceleration will come with the CX-5’s balanced design.
Jeffrey Guyton, President of Mazda North Operations, sees this as a logical step. “As Mazda continues our climb toward premium, we will offer more powertrain choices that premium customers expect.”
In other words, premium options should become more and more common for Mazda—which means an even-better driving experience for you! Let’s take a deeper dive into the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature Skyactiv® – D. From what we know so far, it will feature the following:
- Beefed-Up Towing Capacity – 3,500 lbs (up from 2,000 lbs on gas-powered CX-5’s)
- High Torque Driving Experience – 168 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm
- Increased All-Wheel-Drive Economy – EPA-estimated 27 mpg on city, 30 mpg on highway, 28 mpg overall
