Re-engineered, redesigned and really worth it — the 2018 Mazda6 elevates all aspects of a midsize sedan while retaining its affordable price. Here’s what to look for when the 2018 Mazda6 goes on sale this spring:
With the exception of the steering wheel and minor trim details, the 2018 Mazda6 touts an all-new interior that maximizes driver and passenger comfort. The driver and front passenger seats are not only wider than previous years, they’ve also been fully redesigned with a high-density, vibration absorbing urethane foam. This new material provides a firmer, more supportive ride without sacrificing seat comfort. The rear passenger seats have also been redesigned with high-density urethane foam to enhance passenger comfort.
Smart New Tech
Complementing its newly redesigned interior is a host of new tech features that improve driving safety and enjoyability. A few notable mentions:
- 360⁰ View Monitor
- A reconfigurable 7.0-inch TFT gauge display in higher-trim models
- A new 8.0-inch MAZDA CONNECT infotainment display with sharper color contrast
- Available full-speed Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go
- Windshield wiper de-icer
- Windshield-projected Active Driving Display head-up unit
One of the most exciting improvements made to the Mazda6 for 2018 is the option of two powertrains — 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine and a turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter, inline-four engine.
The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine — available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission — is now equipped with cylinder deactivation technology to improve vehicle efficiency. This technology allows the vehicle to operate on two cylinders when driving at steady speeds between 25 and 30 mph, and when power is needed activating all four cylinders for maximum performance.
New this model year is Mazda’s award-winning turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter, inline-four engine previously seen in the CX-9 crossover SUV. Available as a six-speed automatic only this technological force is capable of producing 310 lb-ft of torque and 250 horsepower on 93-octane fuel.
Improved Ride Quality
Thanks to an overall improved suspension — thicker sheet metal in the rear wheel-wells and reinforced chassis bracing — Mazda6 passengers will enjoy an incredibly smooth, quiet ride, while drivers will relish the Mazda6’s greater steering response and feel.
The 2018 Mazda6 is a midsize sedan that rivals vehicles above its class in style, performance, and sophistication, but what sets it apart from those luxury car models — what the Mazda6 offers that luxury cars cannot — is its incredibly affordable price.
