The 2019 Mazda Miata: More Powerful & More Efficient

Mazda’s beloved roadster is back. After undergoing a significant powertrain refresh, the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata returns, and it’s more powerful and more fuel-efficient than ever before. The new Miata sees an increase in horsepower from 155 to 181, an increase in torque from 148 to 151lb-ft, and an increase in RPM from 6800 to 7500.

Optimized to prevent engine knocking while maximizing thermal efficiency and minimizing emissions, the 2019 Miata arrives at this nearly 20% increase in power through an increased exhaust-manifold flow, higher-pressure fuel injectors, and weight reductions made to its pistons and connecting rods. Plus, the addition of the enriched Miata’s SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine means drivers of the 2019 Miata will enjoy a peppier, more responsive ride with improved performance and handling.

In addition to substantial performance upgrades, Mazda added new safety features to the Miata and made subtle interior and exterior improvements to provide a safer, more comfortable driving experience.

Now standard on the Miata is a rear-view camera that makes parking and navigating tight spots easier than  ever. And, with the available Traffic Sign Recognition and Smart City Brake Support, the Miata offers drivers a more comprehensive approach to safe driving.

As for interior upgrades, the new telescoping steering wheel — a first for any Miata — allows drivers to create a more comfortable, personalized driving position, a particularly helpful and welcome addition for taller drivers. The steering wheel can telescope in by a purported 42 millimeters, which translates to a little more than 1.6 inches.

Additional interior upgrades include revised cupholders, seat levers, and door stops. Design changes to the exterior include stylish black metallic 17-inch wheels, as well as an available brown soft top to complete the Miata’s KODO—Soul of Motion design.
